Firefox’s Extension Paste and Go 3

Just released Firefox’s Extension Paste and Go version 3.

Actually I didn’t make it from the scratch, I just update it to make it work with Mozilla Firefox 3.5.x and it’s working fine (this release will work on Firefox 1.5 to 3.5.x). Here I’ll try to show you how the extension will ease the use of Mozilla Firefox.

Use of the extension:
Most of the time while we surf the internet, we have to copy some URL and paste the URL on the address field and hit enter or click the go button. Now this extension for Firefox will ease the the whole process. You have to copy an URL, right click on the address field and select “Paste and Go” That’s it!

Installation:
Go to: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/9133 with Mozilla Firefox, on the page and you will see a button like this:

Currently Mozilla left the extension as experimental extension, so you need to create an account on Mozilla to download that. If you don’t want to create the account, please download the extension by clicking here.

Click on the “Add to Firefox” button and a window like this will appear:

Click on the “Install Now” button to install the extension and the extension will be installed on Firefox. You will notice a progress like this:

A window like this will appear after the installation is finished:

Click on the “Restart Now” button to restart Firefox and make the extension work for you. If you are doing something important, you can restart Firefox later. But only after restarting Firefox the extension will start working,

After restarting Firefox, you will see a notification that one extension is installed.

Close the window and continue using Firefox.

Now whenever you need to copy an URL and paste it on the address bar, just copy the URL and right click on the address bar and select paste and go. :P

Hope this will be useful for you and you will enjoy the extension. If you encounter any problem, please leave a message.

Update 13 May 2009: I just have released it’s version 1.0.1, which is compatible with Firefox 3.5.x

Update 16 May 2009 : In my last update many complained that it does not appear on Extensions section and Options disappeared. So fixed them in this 1.0.2 release.

Thank you *SO MUCH* for updating this extension! I’ve been waiting forever, since I take it for granted in Opera, so I missed it in Firefox. Great work!

  6. Sherm 2008-10-18, 6:15 am

The search engine roll feature doesn’t seem to be working. Or am I doing something wrong?

    Hello,

can you tell me how to change the language of the Paste and go from context menu?

    Thanks

  10. সোহাগ ভুইঁয়া 2008-11-14, 4:00 pm

opera has this option from before!

  11. pantsgolem 2008-11-16, 2:35 pm

For anyone who is having trouble installing this, see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=424339#c45 — there is an AMO bug that breaks installing sandboxed addons if third-party cookies are disabled.

  12. Krystek 2008-11-16, 9:55 pm

Are You planning to add translations for other languages to this extension?

  13. blech 2008-11-17, 2:24 pm

    thank you ‘pantsgolem’

    the extension is still not compatible with “AutoCopy” though;
the paste and go option will remain greyed out when copied automatically – it works with regular copying

Paste and Go: The ability to click the mouse wheel in the “Paste and Go” and “Paste and Search”. depending whether to copy the URL or a word to search there has been a “Paste and Go” or “Paste and Search” (in the address bar – omnibar in gChrome).

Tried to install but it keep say not a valid installation package 207

  16. Ron Ray 2009-02-16, 1:45 am

    Thanks!
I’ve used the original “Paste and Go/Paste and Go 2″ Since the code was first written.
But (as you know) it isn’t supported in Firefox 3. :(
(You would think they would have a clue… huh?)

Anyway, thanks for upgrading this code to work in FF3.

    Ron

Extension don’t saves presets an opens the link in the active tab every time I press keyboard shortcut. I changed the shortcut itself and it works, but the first tab of the presets window seems not to remember any changes.

    I’m on FF 3.0.6 and XP SP3

And in Russian interface its named as “Paste and Go 2″

  18. Omi Azad 2009-02-19, 3:24 am

    @Sub
I said clearly that this is not something new. As everything is taken from Paste and Go 2, the translations are still old. And as I know no other language I cannot update them. :)

If you can give me update I can fix them and release new version.

  19. A Quijano 2009-02-25, 12:32 pm

Hello, I’ve been trying to add Paste and Go 3 to my browser, but get this error message instead:

Firefox could not install the file at

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/downloads/file/38795/paste_and_go_3-0.8.1-fx.xpi

because: Invalid file hash (possible download corruption)
    -261

Has anyone else seen this error message? Any help? Thanks.

  20. A Quijano 2009-02-25, 12:35 pm

Just figured it out by reading this entire thread. Third party cookies must be enabled. It worked.

  21. Sub 2009-02-25, 12:50 pm

    2 Omi Azad
Forget the language updates, it’s not so important.
The main question was that this extension’s first tab of the presets window seems not to remember any changes.

I don’t want to open the link in current tab, but in the new active tab.

  22. Omi Azad 2009-02-26, 9:08 pm

    Sub,
The extension you are looking for is here:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7163

  23. Sub 2009-02-26, 11:36 pm

Thanks, but I prefer opening the link by keyboard shortcut. Like CTRL+C the link, CTRL+Shift+V to open in in new tab.

  24. Omi Azad 2009-02-26, 11:45 pm

    Sub
Very good. As you know extensions are for making people idle and you know that. :)

  25. Patrick 2009-03-12, 1:45 pm

I am also receiving the hash error when trying to install the extension.

  26. Robaire 2009-04-2, 3:02 am

Ditto on the download problem. Fix it please!

  27. Peter 2009-04-5, 6:17 pm

Will you make an official update for Firefox 3.1/3.5? I’m currently using a hacked install.rdf and ran into no problems so far.

  28. vlad2805 2009-05-4, 5:24 pm

    nice work!!!!

  29. stef 2009-05-6, 4:23 pm

    I love this add-on.
Do you plan to support search keywords too?
I’d like to paste a word after a search keyword (like “w ” for Wikipedia) and have the paste and go perform the search behavior.
Is it something you’re planning on doing?

  30. dude 2009-05-12, 6:50 am

    hi Omi,

thank you for this extension, would it be possible to have an option in the context menu, similar to opera, i used it extensively in opera where the url/links are just text and not clickable, you just highlight the url/link text and then select “copy and go”

  31. dash 2009-05-14, 2:30 am

    Hallo,
i just have installed “Paste and Go 3 1.0.1″ into my FireFox 3.0.10 and it works great, the only strange thing is that i cant see it in the list of installed addons O_o.

Can you please look into this, thanks.

  32. Thomas 2009-05-14, 6:17 pm

Great add-on, but the add-on does not appear in the Firefox add-on list for configuration or uninstall.
    THomas

  33. Game 2009-05-15, 2:59 pm

@Thomas: Same here. Omi can you fix it please? THANKS

  34. Harold Fuchs 2009-05-15, 4:47 pm

Same for me. I installed on Firefox 3.0.10 on Win XP pro but now I can’t see it in Add-ons. This means I can’t uninstall it, check for updates or set any options. What is happening?

  35. Omi Azad 2009-05-16, 12:30 pm

    Guys
As you may know that I’m not the author of the add-on. But I’ll look into the problem you mentioned.

  36. Game 2009-05-17, 2:00 am

Thanks Omi for the fast fix. :-)

  37. Thomas 2009-05-17, 3:29 am

    Thanks a lot!!

  38. Harold Fuchs 2009-05-17, 4:12 pm

Thank you. The extension now shows up in my list and I can set preferences.

  39. Harold Fuchs 2009-05-17, 4:17 pm

Hmm. Weird. Firefox’s about:config shows the extension as “pasteandgo2″ instead of “pasteandgo3″.

  40. blech 2009-05-18, 6:58 pm

    Back again with a renewed request for AutoCopy support;

Paste and Go 3 will not work on text copied automatically to clipboard.
AutoCopy is such a wonderful extension, it would be a breeze if the two of you could work together.

    http://autocopy.mozdev.org/

  41. dash 2009-05-20, 12:03 am

    @blech
I work with both daily and they work together just fine.
(I can select some text, click on PasteAndGo/PasteAndSearch buttons and voilà!)

  42. blech 2009-05-26, 9:16 pm

    thank you ‘dash’ – that’s a good step forward;
    i’ve been using the right-click context menu to paste into the url- or search-bar – this is what doesn’t work with autocopy;

just tried the buttons and it works no problem :)

  43. Ammmirooo 2009-05-27, 1:08 am

    Fabulous job
How about opening a new tab either in foreground or background by middle clicking on the tabbar
    Keep up the good job

  44. Kairos 2009-06-10, 1:27 am

Please, is it possible to add german translation for “paste and go” to the context menu?

The translation is: “Einfügen und aufrufen”

    See Opera-Screenshot:

    http://i729.photobucket.com/albums/ww292/kleingewerbe/opera.jpg

The translation for “paste and search” is:

    “Einfügen und suchen”

(There is no need to translate the whole addon, only the context menu.)

    Thanks in advance.

PS: If you have no “ü” on your keyboard here it is: “ü”. ;-) (Copy it to your addon or take “ue” instead: “Einfuegen und …”)
